Source Naturals Policosanol is a blend of compounds isolated from natural plant waxes.  Policosanol contains several long chain fatty alcohols, including octacosanol, hexacosanol and triacontanol.  Animal and in-vitro research has shown that these compounds may support healthy cholesterol levels, the cardiovascular system, and lipid peroxidation as well as support macrophage activity.

Policosanol is a natural supplement derived from sugar cane.  Policosanol is a mixture of eight higher primary aliphatic alcohols isolated and purified from sugar cane wax.  Cheap versions of policisanol that contain a high amount of octacosanol have flooded the American marketplace.  If one expects to derive the benefits of policosanol, the other alcohols that make up the policosanol product should be present.

Non-toxic
 Policosanol is very safe and free of side effects.  It is a natural supplement made from sugar cane.  The main ingredient is octacosanol.  Octacosanol is an alcohol found in the waxy film that plants have over their leaves and fruit.  The leaves and rinds of citrus fruits contain octacosanol, and so does wheat germ oil.  Caviar contains high amounts of octacosanol.

Octacosanol is a long chain fatty alcohol (similar to cholesterol which is also an alcohol).  Policosanol is a combination of octacosanol and several other long chain fatty alcohols -- hence the name poli-cosanol.  Keeping octosanol together with other naturally-occurring fatty alcohols makes it more stable.  There is evidence that octosanol also works better when its combined with other fatty alcohols.

Fatty alcohols are converted to fatty acids, and vice-versa.  The beneficial fatty acids in fish, for example, are made from octacosanol and other long chain fatty alcohols.  Fatty alcohols are required for important bio-substances in the body.

Suggested Use:  2 tablets, in the evening, for the first three months.  Thereafter, 1-2 tablets daily.  Source Naturals recommends that a minimum of 15 mg of coQ10 be taken daily per tablet of policosanol.  Some research suggests that coQ10 levels in the body may be lowered by compounds that work on the same metabolic pathway as policosanol.
