Coral Calcium Citrate, Bone Assure - Vitamin D3
by Dusty R. Green, M.Ed., Research Scientist/Author of Smart Eats, Smart Supplements, and Smart ExerciseCoral calcium or calcium citrate can assist with regulating blood pressure and is largely dependent upon vitamin D3 for absorption. It is is a necessary constituent to magnesium at a ratio of 2:1. In other words, 2 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium. Another study (below) showed that adequate levels of calcium can assist in inhibiting carcinogenesis.
The suggested use of coral calcium (600mg size) for women is six tablets daily. Men - four to five tablets daily. For example: (1 in AM, 2 in afternoon, and 2 before bedtime). The 1200mg size would be 3 for women and 2 for men. Regular exercisers might consider adding an extra tablet or two to their daily routine in addition to the recommendations.
If you do choose Life Extension Mix as your main multiple vitamin/mineral supplement, beware of mineral combinations from your other supplements containing magnesium. Magnesium is a natural laxative and calcium can harden your stools. Too much magnesium in relation to calcium can encourage stools that are too soft or diarrhea may even be the result. The flip side is just the opposite so it would be wise to pay attention the the 2:1 ratio mentioned above.
