BHT (butylated
hydroxy toluene) - Preservative / Use / Side Effects BHT
(butylated hydroxy toluene) is
a fat-soluble preservative for food
oils and fats. This product has been discussed in books authored
by Mann and Fowkes as well as Pearson and Shaw over the last three
decades.
BHT
has been used since 1947 as a common antioxidant in rubber and
petroleum products and, more recently, in plastics. For human consumption, it has been used
since 1949 as an antioxidant in many fat-containing foods (edible
fats/oils), and in cosmetics. Thus, there is widespread human
exposure to this compound. Editors note (7-15-08):
After several anecdotal reports from customers/clients, in addition to the BHT/lysine factors, there appears to be a relationship to an "acid-state" in the body and a high incidence of herpes/cold sores related outbreaks. While extrapolating the
research, I discovered an additional factor that may relate to herpes suppression. As I continue to do research in this arena, creating an alkaline environment in the body suggests a positive relationship to the suppression of this virus (not to mention other disease states).

Keep containers tightly closed in a cool dry and dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Directions: Add 1-2 capsules to bottle of cooking oil to preserve freshness. Primarily used to prevent fats from becoming rancid. BHT reacts quickly with oxygen in the air, making the oxygen unavailable for reaction with surrounding fats and oils. Or consume 2-3 capsules/day in evenly divided doses. Cautions: If taken with alcohol, BHT may prevent alcohol breakdown and, as a result, may exacerbate and prolong the side effects of alcohol.
