Aniracetam (Slim Xtreme's Active Ingredient) -- Seratonin, Acetylcholine, and Dopamine Toys by Dusty R. Green, M.Ed., Research Scientist & Author of Smart Eats, Smart Supplements, and Smart Exercise 01-05-10 Since SlimXtreme was discontinued by the manufacturer, Anabolic Xtreme, I decided it was time to use myself as a guinea pig ... again.  And, I'm very glad I did!  From the hundreds of nutritional supplements I've consumed for scientific purposes throughout the decades, this is one of the most fun things I've discovered.  If there is a "happy pill" out there, this is it!  This natural product is has been isolated from various amino acids, plants, animals and some fungi.  Aniracetam (in my experience) suppresses my appetite, enhances energy (not jittery or nervous energy -- quite smooth), and makes my brain smarter than Einstein's (kiddin' ... just seems to). As I've learned, aniracetam turns out to be one of the main/active ingredients in Slim Xtreme.  The only thing I haven't experienced with aniracetam is the mild headaches that I would get sometimes with Slim Xtreme.  In the beginning of my trials, I used 750 mg/day of aniracetam and didn't feel much.  I eventually had to take approximately 2,200-3,000 mg (2.2 gm to 3 gm) in the AM to feel the positive effects that go along with crankin' up dopamine, seratonin, and acetylcholine levels in the brain.  And, since it's fat soluble it stays with you 12-14 hours. Sleep Sleep is definitely REM (rapid eye movement) and I don't need as much sleep each night compared to when it is not in my system.  Also, and as a result, happy vivid dreams are the norm ... feels really good ... even at nap-time! Appetite Suppression My stomach constantly feels so full that food is not as desirable as it is normally.  It's understandable how people can drop body fat so easily on this stuff.  Several testimonials I've read mention that adding choline enhances the effects.  I take Life Extension Mix (contains choline) daily and assumed that I was getting enough choline in my system.  After about 1 month of experimenting with only aniracetam (and the small amount of choline in Life Extension Mix), I decided to take HepatoPro (lots of choline) with aniracetam.  Wallaaaah ... big difference ... the positive aspects go up a notch! Exercise On another note, I found that adding Lipodrene puts me in "hyper-drive" ... great for exercise (lifting, aerobic activities, and sports) along with additional appetite suppression. Side Effects? I've been referencing and cross-referencing and can't find any negative side effects other than the feeling of mild nausea ... in testimonials and even in the scientific literature (will add references later).  I've had the feeling of nausea a couple of times in the month trial but never "blew chow" (there's hardly any chow on my stomach anyway due to appetite suppression).  Another possible side effect for some people may be sleep related ... just make sure you don't take it too late in  the day. Dose From my experience and the research involved, 3-4 capsules or 3/4 to 1 teaspoon of the powder (3,000 mg) first thing in the AM is the way to do it.  However, some people may want to tweak the amount they take since we are collectively a bit different, physiologically. Please note:  Some people have reported that consuming more than 3,000 mg in the AM has an effect on their ability to fall asleep later that night since it lasts for 12 or more hours per day (it's fat soluble ... not water soluble).  In addition, they don't require as much sleep as usual and feel quite refreshed and "ready to go" the next day.  This may explain the reduced amount of oxygen needed by the brain which Aniracetam seems to provide.  If sleep is an issue for you, I suggest starting out with 1 capsule (750mg) or a heaping 1/4 teaspoon of the powder (approximately 750mg) in the AM and play with the dose until you find the amount that works best for you.  When you've found the dose that's right for you, you'll know it -- all the lights come on, you smile a lot, and are ready to take on the world.
